BARRON CO., WI – A 32-year-old woman died Tuesday night following a fiery two-vehicle collision at an intersection in central Barron County.
The incident occurred around 6:58 p.m. between Barron and Cameron at the intersection of County Highway West, or 14th Avenue, and 18th Street. This is just west of the access point to the Red Cedar River.
Police say that the victim failed to heed a stop sign while heading north in her pickup truck on 18th Street and collided with the side of an eastbound pickup truck in the intersection. The collision caused both pickups to leave the roadway. The northbound pickup caught fire, and the eastbound pickup overturned.
The driver of the first pickup truck, identified as Elizabeth Steward, died at the scene of the accident.
Medics airlifted the second driver, identified as 19-year-old Braden Thomas, to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
