MILWAUKEE, WI – One person died after crashing into a pole while fleeing a police pursuit in the Garden Homes area early this morning, according to information from TMJ4 News.
The collision happened near the intersection of W Congress Street and W Atkinson Avenue at around 1:15 a.m., when a driver who was allegedly speeding fled a traffic stop. A police pursuit began.
Milwaukee Police stated that they ceased pursuing the driver due to excessive speeds.
The driver, identified as 28-year-old Romon Lashawn Rimmer Jr., then collided with a pole. Police stated that he attempted to flee the scene on foot, but then collapsed due to injuries sustained during the crash.
Rimmer was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police stated that they discovered a gun and narcotics inside the vehicle, though their investigation continues at this time.
A resident of the area stated that the area has been a frequent location for car crashes and hopes that a stop light will be installed to help prevent them.
